Surface & Treatments - Smoked
Smoked oak flooring is a type of hardwood flooring characterized by its rich, dark tones and distinctive grain patterns, achieved through a smoking process. There are 2 methods to smoke a floor. Core Smoked oak is a process that involves exposing the oak wood to ammonia fumes, which react with the natural tannins in the wood, changing the colour throughout the oak. The luxurious color permeates the wood rather than just coating the surface, hence ‘Core Smoked. The outcome is a floor that not only exudes a sophisticated, rustic charm but also boasts enhanced durability and resistance to scratches and dents. Smoked oak flooring is particularly favored in interior design for its ability to add warmth and elegance to both contemporary and traditional spaces, offering a timeless appeal that enhances the overall aesthetic of any room. The other method to smoking a floor is to apply a reactive stain to the surface, hence ‘Surface Smoked’. Whilst giving a durable colour, surface smoked floors will loose its colour if sanded.
