The term parquet is derived from the Old French for small compartment. Laid in contrasting blocks, patterns and motifs are formed in varying degrees of complexity. Parquet de Versailles was first introduced in 1684 at the palace of Versailles. It was originally called parquet de menuiserie (woodwork parquet) to replace the marble flooring that required constant washing. It was laid in contrasting diagonal squares, and was found to be a hard wearing alternative that did not cause the joists to rot.
Since then it has become a popular style never going out of fashion. Our inlaid parquet flooring includes both traditional and contemporary styles. Herringbone is one of the most requested with a timeless appeal but also see how chevrons and more complex arrangements make a visual statement.
